Grokipedia, X’s artificial intelligence encyclopedia, launched

Grokipedia, X’s new artificial intelligence encyclopedia, launched on Monday. The site crashed shortly after launch. At the time of writing, the platform was back up and running. Grokipedia’s homepage lists over 885,000 articles. Elon Musk claimed the Grokipedia-powered encyclopedia would be “much better” than Wikipedia.

Musk has frequently criticized Wikipedia. Musk describes the project as “a necessary step toward xAI’s goal of understanding the Universe.” Musk and his supporters have long argued that Wikipedia is biased. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, however, disputes these claims. Wales has called Musk’s claims “untrue.”

Grokipedia’s launch was actually delayed. Musk stated last week that they needed more work “to clear up the propaganda.” After the launch, the content began to attract attention, and social media users noticed some interesting details.

For example, some articles are nearly identical to Wikipedia entries. Grokipedia, on the other hand, does not offer inline source links like Wikipedia. The articles also include a small disclaimer, stating that the content is adapted from Wikipedia. The platform cites the “Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0” license.

Users also highlighted other points. Some articles were claimed to reflect Musk’s worldview more closely. These claims raised concerns about the “AI-powered encyclopedia.” The entries “university” and “Elon Musk” were cited as examples. Company X has not yet responded to requests for comment.
